The mass removal of animal welfare information from the USDA website has given rise to a challenge from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Gone were the animal inspection records for over 9000 animal facilities nationwide, including large scale dog breeding operations, animal research labs, and roadside zoos, among many others. Website access to these records was made possible following a 2005 HSUS lawsuit, and 2009 settlement, wherein the USDA was required to post certain data/information on animal research.
